Heart
and Soul Launch
An open invitation is extended to all Uniting
Church members and people in the wider community to the launch of
Uniting Church Week. The launch will be held in King George Square
in Brisbane City on Friday, 14 June, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
A feature of the launch will be the presentation
by the Moderator of a Uniting Church Flag to a prominent community
leader. There will be a special program of entertainment featuring
bands, drama, testimonies and displays from various sections of the
Church. UC ministers will be cooking up a free sausage sizzle for
everyone.
The launch in King George Square is bound
to attract much public attention on a Friday lunch time, so dont
miss the opportunity to be a part of the crowd as the Uniting Church
meets the people in the Square.
So come along and join us for what promises
to be a special Uniting Church event to launch the Churchs celebrations
of 25 years of Heart and Soul.

Lifeline
Community Care
Lifeline
Community Care are Celebrating in the following ways:
They
have created a network of communicators, where there is one communication
contact in each Lifeline Community Care centre. Each of Communicators
have been sent a bulletin about the Silver Anniversary and asked to
generate awareness amongst their Centre about the Silver Anniversary.
They have produced a poster - promoting the amalgamation of the Life
Line and Family and Community Support; that the Lifeline Community
Care is part of the Uniting Church; and the Church is celebrating
its Silver Anniversary. Forty (40) posters will be sent each division
for distribution so they can be displayed in each thrift shop, counselling
centre and warehouse. The posters will also be distributed to each
congregation.
Each
Division will host a reception for the community. All congregations
in the immediate vicinity of each Division Administration Centre will
receive an invite to the reception. The reception will also include
an "Act of Dedication" (for example, Mackay is having a
House Hug).
Each
Thrift shop will actively distribute the brochure: "What is the
Uniting Church" - an Assembly publication.

Celebrations
These events should not be missed!
All services have been developed to ensure
that an 8 year old will feel as much a part of the service as an 88
year old.
Therefore, the Silver Anniversary Task Group
invites congregations to attend the celebration service closest
to them and join with others to participate in an awesome worship
experience.
So plan not just to be there, but bring a
bus from your congregation. This is a rare opportunity to not only
worship God as a large Church family but also to share together in
a time of fellowship and fun.
The program for the Brisbane Worship Celebration
is attached. The programs for the regional celebrations will be in
the next communiqué. As part of the Brisbane event, we have
planned activities for all ages before coming together in the common
auditorium for an awesome worship experience filled with a variety
of traditional and contemporary worship elements. Just imagine the
sound and feel of singing and worshipping with two and a half thousand
other people as we join in some of the well known hymns and choruses.
At this stage over 50 Volunteers have committed
their time to help stage and organise the Celebration Events. One
of the most exciting things, in addition to these people offering
their gifts and talents, is the age range of the volunteers
they cover all ages on the spectrum.
Three
"Heart and Soul" celebration services (planned and organised
by the Silver Anniversary Task Group) will be held in Brisbane, Clermont
and Townsville. The dates, times and venues for these celebrations
are as follows:

Brisbane
Heart and Soul Event
This
celebration is one not to be missed. Here are some of the ways to
make it even better:
Bake
a cake
At every birthday celebration there is a cake, large cake for everyone
to enjoy. It is our plan to uphold this tradition. However, we need
your help. For every family attending the Event we would like someone
to bring a cake. Specifications for the cake are:
Size: 8 inch diameter [similar in size to a Woolworths
sponge cake]
Ingredients: Your favourite
Icing: Your favourite
The final presentation of all the combined cakes will be revealed
on the day. All we can promise is that it will be something to behold.
So why not jump into the kitchen or your local bakery and cook up
your contribution to the giant birthday cake.
Ribbons
To fulfil one of the many visions for the worship event, we need your
help. We need each person to bring approximately
1 metre of ribbon. The ribbon can any colour. How it will be
used (you guessed it) will be revealed on the day. Again, all we can
promise is that it will be something to behold.
If you are really organised, bring an extra one to share!!
Banners
The main auditorium of the University of Queensland Centre holds over
2500 people. Not only is it big, the auditorium walls are very bare.
To add extra colour to this area, we encourage every congregation
to bring a banner.
[We
would encourage you to drop them off at the Information Desk in the
main foyer of the Venue either on Saturday or before 10:30 am on Sunday
23 June 2002. Alternatively you can drop them off to the receptionist
on the 2nd floor of the Synod Office any time before close of business
21 June 2002]
Join
the Choir or Orchestral Band
We still need more people to join the choir and the orchestral band.
If any member of your Congregation is interested in using their talents
and gifts in this way, they can contact:
Catherine Solomon on 3379 2208.
Alternatively, they could attend the rehearsal on:
Sunday, 16 June from 2.30 to 4.30pm at Broadwater Road Uniting
Church.

Magnetic
Island Celebrates the Silver Anniversary
Uniting
Church congregations across the State are embracing the Silver Anniversary
and are busy organizing their own celebrations and Awesome Acts
of Grace. Magnetic Islands Uniting Church congregation
is using the Silver Anniversary as a chance to strengthen ties with
other Churches by inviting congregations from the other four churches
on the island and friends from the community to a special thanksgiving
service
And its not just your ordinary type of service!
Magnetic
Islands Uniting Churchs chairperson will present each
of the four Churches plus his own Church with a Gift of Grace rose
(this rose has been especially created and named in honour of the
Uniting Churchs Silver Anniversary)! The rose is a symbol of
our celebrations and the hope that the Uniting Church has for the
future!
At
the service each congregation will bring a reading of Scripture and
a short word on it. The congregations will join together in prayer
and the singing of well-known choruses and hymns.

Silver
Anniversary Rocks Mackay
With
huge Silver Anniversary Celebrations organised in Brisbane, Clermont
and Townsville, Mackay wanted to organise a celebration of their own!
The
Uniting Church congregations in Mackay have joined together to hold
their own Silver Anniversary celebration. The celebration is set to
rock the Mackay Entertainment Centre on Sunday 23 June and will be
a night to remember.
We
have been able to arrange in the Mackay Daily Mercury a feature page
with enough business support. We were aiming at least one page but
looks like we will get 2 or 3 pages of UCA feature page.

Toowoomba
The congregations and agencies of Toowoomba
are joining together for a city-wide celebration of the 25th Anniversary
beginning at 2.00 PM on June 23rd at Fairholme College. Representatives
from congregations and agencies will share something of their dreams
and visions as we face the future. A combined choir and praise band
will help lead the celebration while Past President of the Assembly,
Re. John Mavor will inspire us to "Celebrate the Past and Face
the Future".
The Mayor of Toowoomba, Dianne Thorley, will
be our special guest and will be presented with a number of Gift of
Grace Roses for the cities renowned parks. The proceeds of the days
offering will also be presented to Di for the Mayors Youth Task Force.

Talents of our people; and displays on the work of the Church through
its Agencies.

Worship in Warwick. Invited Community Representatives, and those from
other Churches will be present. This will be followed by a luncheon
and Musical programme.

Aspley
Parish
The congregation of the Parish are excited
about the Silver Anniversary celebrations and are holding a FREE sausage
sizzle at the Bi-Lo complex in Robinson Road on Saturday, 22 June
from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. This is our way of saying "Thank You"
to the people who live in the area and who have supported
the activities of the church over the last 25 years.
At the Sausage Sizzle, some of our young
people will be handing out brochures telling the residents of the
area about some of the activities of the church and the worship times.
We hope that this may encourage some new members to the church.
On Sunday, 23 June there will be a Celebration
Worship Service followed by a special Morning Tea when a Birthday
Cake, made by one of the organising Committee Members, will be cut.
Then we will be planting the "Gift of Grace" rose in the
complex.

congregation to the culmination of Uniting Church Week at the University
of Queensland on Sunday afternoon.

the Heart and Soul Celebration at the UQ Centre which is in our neighbourhood.
We are arranging a shuttle transport service to allow elderly parishoners

in the parish and was the venue for the first celebration in 1977.
Some members of the Dawson Valley Uniting Church will be at the Clermont
celebration.

Maryborough
Celebrations have begun with a 'PARISH' TEA
on Wednesday, 12 June. This event featured table decorations depicting
the 'birthday' theme, a quiz to test the knowledge of Uniting Church
events in the past 25 years (the prize was to be an item of the 'birthday
merchandise), etc. etc.
Other activities:
A 'Parish' Service on 23 June at 10.00am - A special
Order of Service has been prepared, Holy Communion will be celebrated
and worship will be enhanced by a Liturgical Dance (to the tunes of
Celebrate and Give Thanks), choral items and music provided by a small
band and the pipe organ. Several banners depicting the 'birthday'
theme are being prepared. A sausage sizzle will follow the
Service of Worship, at 12 noon. An anniversary cake will be
cut by a long-standing member from each congregation.
A general invitation has been extended to
all members of the Maryborough community to attend the Service and/or
the Sausage Sizzle. This is being done by way of:
Flyers - Almost 800 have been distributed to church members (by way
of a pastoral visit from an Elder) and at Services of Worship, to
all church groups, to the five Caring Agencies and to local Motels
and Caravan Parks.
Newspaper Articles - Copy has been made available to the Fraser Coast
Chronicle for publication on 15 June and during the week beginning
17 June.
Display
of Memorabilia
Photographs and items of interest have been gathered of church activities
and activities of Caring Agencies. These will be displayed in the
foyer of St. Stephen's Private Hospital from 17 June to the evening
of 20 June. The display will then be moved to Wesley Auditorium for
public viewing on Friday, 21 June and Saturday, 22 June.
Time Capsule
A brass 'capsule' has been manufactured by a local engineering firm.
At an appropriate time following 23 June the time capsule will be
mounted on the wall of Wesley Auditorium to be opened in 2027. The
capsule will contain messages to the congregation of 2027; anecdotes,
especially those pertaining to the past 25 years; photos of current
church councillors, members of Girls' Brigade, and other church activities;
and a tape and Order of Service from the 23 June Service of Worship
etc., etc.

Tara
Tara
is holding a special Thanksgiving Service followed by a lunch. People
living in Tara and the neighbouring surrounds have been invited to
the service and for lunch.

Twin
Towns
The
Congregation held a Celebration Event last Sunday. There was a worship
service of Thanks Giving and Praise; a photographic display; a Forum
- Yesterday, Today, Forever: presented by three speakers - Rev Colin
Munns, Dave Thomas & Rev Sue Holm; and much food, including special
lunch and cutting and distribution of an Anniversary Cake.
Gathering
Together as a Whole Church Family
The
three celebration services are being planned as an opportunity to
gather and worship together as a church family. The last time that
this occurred was NCYC 2001, where over 6000 people attended the main
celebration service. Anyone who was in attendance will remember the
uplifting atmosphere, excitement and vitality of a faith community
gathering together to worship God. The hope for each Heart and Soul
Celebration is that the people of God are similarly motivated to come
together as a faith community to be touched, blessed and enriched
by the experience. All services will blended in such a way that an
8 year old will feel as much a part of the service as an 88 year old.
Therefore,
the Silver Anniversary Task Group invites
congregations to attend the celebration service closest to them with
the prospect of filling each venue!

Too
Far to Travel?
Where
the tyranny of distance is a limiting factor or another event
prevents the attendance of a person/congregation, the Silver
Anniversary Task Group is working on two solutions so that people
can still participate as part of the celebration (albeit in
a more passive way).
Internet Video Broadcast
Broadcasting
the Brisbane event live via the Internet.
The concept is to invite regional congregations to gather as
satellite congregations either singularly or as a cluster to
view the Celebration Service. To ensure the worship experience
for the satellite congregations is not just a passive one, multi-media
presentations to be shown and the chorus/hymns to be sung during
the Celebration Service will be sent to each satellite congregation.
This allow these satellite gathering to sing and view multi-media
presentation at the same as those gathered for the celebration
at the University of Queensland.
Radio Simulcast
It is proposed that 96.5 would broadcast live the Celebration
Service and other events held at the University of Queensland
Centre.

Uniting
Church Week
Uniting
Church Week will be held in the week leading up to the Celebration
Event at UQ, from Monday 17th June

various service aspects they provide.
